About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Healius. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing manual and automated diagnostic testing to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Executing routine procedures from specimen reception to result execution for pathological diagnosis, including specimen dissection.
  • Assisting with stock control and maintaining all equipment in line with protocols.
  • Complying with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols.
  • Maintaining current scientific knowledge and participating in both routine and audit-related Quality Assurance activities.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required.
  • Participating in training staff and liaising with internal and/or external stakeholders regarding test results or referrals as necessary.
  • Complying with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures, and Quality Assurance Processes.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or AIMS approved equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise, and skills in Haematology, Biochemistry, Blood Bank, and Stat Microbiology.
  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
  • Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision.
  • An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence.
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures.
  • A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member.
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment.
  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department-specific vaccine preventative diseases.
