About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Perth. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a critical role in providing geotechnical recommendations to Mine Planning and Studies, and ensuring geotechnical residual risks are communicated to Operations for management during implementation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide geotechnical recommendations for the appropriate collection of geotechnical data reflecting the level of Study (Conceptual to Implementation)
  • Assess geological, hydrogeological, and structural information to formulate a geotechnical model
  • Derive material parameters from drilling, laboratory, and reconciliation data for input into geotechnical models
  • Assist Specialist Geotechnical Engineers in preparation of geotechnical design recommendations
  • Communicate residual geotechnical risks to Operations for management of risk
  • Engage with external consultants to ensure fit-for-purpose design recommendations are made to industry standards
  • Champion the Rio Tinto D3 standard (management of slope geotechnical hazards)
Requirements
  • BSc, BEng Earth Science or Engineering Degree, relevant postgraduate qualifications desirable
  • Current WA C-Class Driver's License
  • Experience with geotechnical data collection
  • Some experience with open-pit geotechnical design, particularly using Rocscience and Vulcan (or equivalent) software
  • Open-pit operational geotechnical experience
  • Strong technical report writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize work
  • Strong people skills
