CAD/CAM CNC Programmer Role

Weir Minerals is a global leader in the design, manufacturing, and supply of equipment for the mining and minerals processing industries. Our Artarmon facility is an exciting place to work, with one of the largest foundries in Australia. We specialize in delivering innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.

This role involves creating new 3D pattern and corebox CAD models, as well as managing the updates of existing programs to ensure compliance with released drawings from Engineering. You will also be responsible for producing detailed pattern build-up models and templates to assist in the efficient creation of timber preforms for machining on the 5-axis CNC router.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate 3D CAD models of patterns and coreboxes, designed to be safe for use in the foundry metal casting environment.
  • Generate 3D slice models for transfer to 3D printers.
  • Generate G-code programs for transfer to CNC router machining procedural techniques and detailed machining methods.
  • Design and publish timber preform templates.
  • Ensure all patterns, etc., are of the correct dimensions and to the latest revision.
  • Effectively manage the pattern model library within the Teamcenter environment.
  • Create 2D CAD drawings for foundry-specific jigs and fixtures.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of CAD & CNC programming modeling experience.
  • Recognized tertiary qualifications (Patternmaker/Machinist/CNC Programmer).
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and practices.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles.
  • Experience with timber construction methods.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems.
