Job Summary:

About this Position:

We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to lead our finance team. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring financial affairs are conducted efficiently and effectively.

  • This includes leading Council's financial and statutory reporting functions, and the operational finance team, comprising of accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking and other general finance functions.

You will contribute to continuous improvement of financial reporting systems and processes along with assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and reviews.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of Council's annual financial statements, in full compliance with the Local Government Act Office of Local Government (OLG), executive and council reporting

  • Deliver insightful financial analysis and reporting to support strategic decision-making across the organisation
  • Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a customer-focused, high performing team culture
  • Contribute to budget preparation, forecasting and analysis, providing expert advice to senior managers
  • Ensure efficient and effective operation of accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including ensuring timely collection of council dues

Requirements:

Tertiary qualifications in accounting/commerce or business

Full membership of a recognised professional institute (CA,CPA, IPA or equivalent)

Advanced financial systems literacy, including Microsoft Excel

Extensive experience in financial accounting or a relevant field

Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and reporting skills

Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

Proven ability to lead and mentor a finance team
