About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Biosecurity Officer to join our team at the Queensland Government. As a Biosecurity Officer, you will play a critical role in protecting and enhancing plant biosecurity and product integrity in Queensland.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field-based monitoring, surveillance, auditing, and inspection activities to protect and enhance plant biosecurity and product integrity in Queensland.
  • Gather information and record evidence as part of investigations of potential legislative breaches.
  • Work with external stakeholders to facilitate their legislative compliance in managing biosecurity risks associated with plant pests and diseases, and promotion of responsible Agvet chemical use.
  • Participate in responses to emergency situations, such as pest and disease outbreaks, contaminants, and natural disasters, at a district, state-wide, or interstate level.
  • Conduct surveillance for plant pest and disease, chemical residue, and contaminant analysis, and monitoring activities, including collection of relevant samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Work with external stakeholders to facilitate their legislative compliance in managing biosecurity risks associated with plant pests and diseases, and promotion of responsible Agvet chemical use.
Requirements
  • Australian Diploma or Associate Diploma or higher qualification in a relevant field, such as agriculture or environment, from a recognized tertiary institute.
  • International qualifications will be assessed to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
