Job Overview

Horticulture farm managers are responsible for planning and executing the daily operations of avocado farms with the goal of achieving high yields and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and mitigate hazards to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Oversee daily farming activities such as fertigation, irrigation, fruit harvesting, tree pruning, pest control, and herbicide spraying programs.
  • Develop and manage budgets for farming activities and monitor operational costs.
  • Manage labour resources and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Ensure staff receive comprehensive training on safety protocols.
  • Develop succession plans to build team capability across the business.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and operational excellence.
About the Ideal Candidate
  • A tertiary qualification in horticulture or agriculture is highly beneficial.
  • At least 5 years of experience in agricultural or horticultural farm management.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to manage workforce planning within a horticultural environment.
  • Strong understanding of key business drivers and cost management principles.
  • Excellent planning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Results-driven mindset with a focus on operational excellence.
  • Well-developed negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Proficient in the use of business software and systems.
