Research Mathematician

The School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW is seeking a Senior Research Associate to undertake research on an ARC-funded Discovery Project.

• Undertake research on an ARC-funded Discovery Project entitled Probabilistic Methods for Complex Discrete Structures
• Collaborate with renowned experts in combinatorics and graph theory, including Prof. Catherine Greenhill, Dr Mikhail Isaev, A/Prof. Anita Liebenau, Prof. Brendan McKay, and Prof. Ian Wanless
• Contribute to the teaching effort of the School through limited teaching in research-related undergraduate subjects, enhancing student learning outcomes and academic achievement

1. Develop innovative research projects to tackle fundamental challenges in graph and hypergraph theory
2. Design and conduct experiments to test hypotheses and validate results, applying statistical methods and computational tools as needed
3. Communicate research findings effectively through high-quality publications, presentations, and collaborations with colleagues from diverse backgrounds

• A completed PhD in mathematics or theoretical computer science with expertise in asymptotic, algorithmic, or probabilistic combinatorics
• Demonstrated experience in developing and applying mathematical models to complex problems, with a strong understanding of graph and hypergraph theory
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
