Job Title: Science Laboratory Assistant
">Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive individual to join our science department as a Laboratory Technician. This role involves managing, preparing, maintaining and organizing laboratory equipment and materials for classroom experiments and practicals.
">Key Responsibilities:
Preparing and supplying materials and equipment for science practical classes, including purchasing of materials and dismantling and clean up of experiments and equipment.
Preparing risk assessments for science practical classes by advising and assisting science teaching staff in safety matters relating to the science laboratory.
Complying with standards and legislation by ensuring the safe handling and storage of hazardous substances, maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets and labelling chemicals correctly.
Organizing and maintaining laboratories and preparation areas by creating a safe, tidy, and clean environment.
General administration duties including liaising with suppliers for quotations and procurement of resources.
Requirements:
Hold a current Working with Children Check.
Hold a current National Police Clearance from the Department of Education.
Hold or be working towards an Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School.
Annually complete the online Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training and any other mandatory CEWA training.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
A high level of autonomy, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
Strong interpersonal skills, enabling harmonious and positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and confident in different situations to provide assistance across a variety of tasks.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Experience in computer literacy and proficiency.
An understanding of Occupational Health and Safety issues.
About the Role:
This is a permanent, part-time position available 5 days per week, 8:30am to 3:30pm for 40 weeks per annum. The successful applicant will be responsible for working alongside the Senior Laboratory Technician to manage laboratory equipment and materials.
