Academic Support Specialist Role

This role involves providing individualized learning support to children and young people in Out Of Home Care, enhancing their academic success and personal development.

Tutoring sessions will be conducted on an hourly basis after school hours, focusing on literacy and numeracy skills. The Academic Support Specialist will implement informal assessment strategies, determine learning goals, and design effective learning programs for each student.

  • 1:1 tutoring sessions with students aged between Year 4 and Year 12.
  • Providing tailored learning support in literacy and/or numeracy, catering to the unique needs of each student.
  • Assessing student progress, identifying areas of improvement, and adjusting learning plans accordingly.
  • Communicating effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to student support.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Education or a related field, with significant teaching experience.
  • Experience working with children with behavioral and learning difficulties, as well as those who have experienced complex trauma.
  • Understanding of the educational needs of children in Out Of Home Care, including any relevant policy and procedural knowledge.
  • Ability to exercise patience, sensitivity, and empathy when supporting students facing various challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, including students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and record-keeping skills, with the ability to work autonomously.

Essential Attributes:

  • Current Working With Children Check and National Police Check, or willingness to obtain.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation with comprehensive insurance.
