Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Moody's Full time

At Moody's, we bring together exceptional talent to transform today's challenges into future possibilities. Our commitment is to foster an inclusive workplace where every individual feels empowered to express their true selves, engage in meaningful dialogue, and innovate collaboratively.

We are looking for candidates who exemplify our core values: nurture every relationship, pursue knowledge with curiosity, embrace diverse viewpoints, translate insights into actions, and maintain trust through integrity.

Position Overview

This role involves overseeing a ratings portfolio within Moody's corporate finance division, specifically for the Australia and New Zealand markets. As the primary analyst, you will conduct thorough quantitative and qualitative evaluations to determine the creditworthiness of various entities and debt instruments, ensuring continuous monitoring to uphold rating precision. This position requires managing both internal and external relationships, including interactions with senior stakeholders, and producing insightful research on individual firms and overarching sector trends. Additionally, outreach initiatives will be part of your responsibilities, encompassing a broader regional scope.

Key Responsibilities

Analytics and Monitoring

Act as the lead analyst performing initial and ongoing credit evaluations for a designated portfolio of corporations in Australia and New Zealand. Execute quantitative analyses of financial statements and economic/market data, alongside in-depth reviews of bond agreements, liquidity contracts, official statements, and other legal documentation. Proactively oversee the portfolio and provide recommendations for rating adjustments in a timely manner. Develop a coherent rating rationale and present it persuasively during rating committee discussions, while facilitating committee dialogue. Exhibit sound rating judgment, demonstrating the ability to differentiate among entities at various rating levels.

Research

The lead analyst is expected to produce insightful and thought-provoking research reports on specific companies and industry sectors. Balancing these research duties with daily transaction oversight and surveillance activities is crucial. This role necessitates strong writing capabilities, the skill to convey complex ideas clearly, and a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.

Issuer and Investor Relations

Cultivate and sustain high-profile relationships with senior corporate leaders, investors, and intermediaries, engaging frequently based on industry and topical research. Enhance Moody's presence through investor and intermediary outreach, including visibility initiatives such as media engagements and conference participation. Lead issuer meetings, effectively presenting key rating factors and posing probing questions that foster substantive discussions on critical credit issues.

Communication

Present credit evaluations comprehensively in rating committees and other internal analytical meetings. Mentor and develop junior analysts while supporting associates.

Qualifications

A degree in finance, banking, economics, or a related field is required, with postgraduate qualifications strongly preferred. Professional certifications such as CIMA, ACCA, or CFA would be advantageous. A minimum of five years of relevant analytical experience, ideally within a financial institution, primarily in a credit-focused role. Well-honed analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience in research writing is a plus. Ability to juggle multiple competing priorities while meeting deadlines. Comfortable working in a highly collaborative and learning-oriented environment. Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Moody's is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender expression, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by law.
