Senior Payroll Officer Job Summary

This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic national organization as part of a growing payroll team. As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for end-to-end payroll processing for over 1,200 staff members on a weekly and fortnightly basis.

You will work closely with the wider payroll team and report directly to an experienced payroll manager. Your duties will involve preparing and processing payroll, resolving queries, ensuring compliance with awards and legislation, interpreting remuneration packages, and maintaining employee records.

  • Process end-to-end payroll on a weekly and fortnightly basis for over 1,200 employees across multiple entities/states.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll queries and resolve any issues promptly.
  • Evaluate and ensure compliance with relevant awards, fair work, ATO, etc.
  • Analyze and interpret remuneration packages including allowances, bonuses, commissions, salary sacrifice, and fringe benefits.
  • Review payroll journals and reconciliations as well as prepare and lodge payroll tax, super, and workcover reports.
  • Maintain and update employee records on the iChris & Employment Hero payroll systems.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Prior experience working in a senior payroll capacity (5+ years of end-to-end payroll processing).
  • The ability to interpret awards and stay informed about changes.
  • Experience working with complex payroll environments (e.g., multiple awards, shiftwork, penalties, overtime).
  • Proficiency with iChris/Chirs21 and/or Employment Hero would be advantageous, while knowledge of Kronos is a plus.
