**About the Role**

The Senior Mental Health Nurse has a pivotal leadership position in supporting the Director of Nursing in nursing workforce development, professional development, promotion and review of nursing practice at Forensicare.

The SMHN provides expert advice regarding workforce learning and development and contributes directly to the provision of training and support activities.

The SMHN is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management, and leadership for staff of the Nursing Practice Development Unit (NPDU).

The NPDU has responsibility for the coordination, evaluation and ongoing development of the early career nursing graduate program, the transition to practice program and enrolled nurse entry program, provision of quality undergraduate nursing placements and other nursing programs, including Forensic Education for Nurses.

The NPDU promotes evidenced based practices and development within the nursing workforce and supports translational research.
