Senior In-House Counsel

Job Overview
We are a successful, modern water utility that employs over 1,700 people across a range of disciplines. Our diverse service area spans from Ceduna to Port Augusta, the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands, and most places in between.
As a Legal Counsel, you will provide clear and practical legal advice across the business, ensuring we meet our obligations, including administrative law, statutory interpretation, procurement, and contracting, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide appropriate legal advice and drafting services to business areas and instruct external legal service providers when required.
- Contribute to building awareness and understanding amongst staff of key legal and commercial issues and their application to our business.
- Advise on the interpretation and application of relevant legislation.
- Support the broader corporate services team by providing high-level advice and support to internal and external stakeholders in relation to Freedom of Information, compliance, insurance, and corporate obligations and processes.
- Review and advise on legal contracts, aligning them to our risk position and business needs.
Requirements
- Apt tertiary qualifications in law or legislative practice.
- Admission to practice law and a current unrestricted practising certificate or ability to obtain one.
- Undertaken approved training to become an Accredited FOI Officer.
- Highly developed communication skills.
- Experience in preparing, advising, drafting, and negotiating contracts.
- Experience providing in-house legal advice to government departments or agencies.
- Ability to review complex information to arrive at reasoned conclusions.
- Self-management skills and capacity to work autonomously and independently.
