Job Description

The Director, Urban Design plays a pivotal role in shaping the urban environment within the National Capital Authority (NCA) jurisdiction. This position requires a deep understanding of land use and social planning principles at a strategic and technical level to drive sustainable economic growth and development across the precinct.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Principles: Develop comprehensive design principles for a long-term view of the urban environment, encompassing NCA control areas.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Authority members, internal experts, and external stakeholders to craft a vision for the national capital that is tailored to the needs of the community.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate development objectives and implementation plans in alignment with guidance from the Authority.
  • Community Engagement: Provide input for community consultation forums and assist in analyzing feedback from these events.
  • Master Planning: Create master plans that anticipate changes in growth and community expectations.
  • Quality Standards: Develop and implement agreed quality standards for master plan deliverables.
  • Innovation: Contribute to innovation in land use planning to increase infrastructure resilience.
  • Legislative Analysis: Analyze and interpret planning and environmental legislation, policy, and other issues and trends of significance to NCA master plans.
  • Expert Advice: Provide practical and expert urban planning advice to the Chief Planner and branch colleagues as requested.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate as a constructive member of the NCA and provide reasonable support with other branch functions as required.


Requirements

This role requires a deep understanding of urban planning principles, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
