A challenging and rewarding opportunity has arisen for an experienced lawyer to take on a supervisory role within the Administrative Law and Privacy Legal Unit of Victoria Police.
Key Responsibilities- Liaise with internal stakeholders to provide legal advice and representation, as well as external stakeholders to ensure effective caseload management.
- Supervise staff to ensure matters are properly prepared for hearing before various tribunals and jurisdictions.
- Appear as an advocate on behalf of the Chief Commissioner of Police and the LRD before various tribunals and jurisdictions.
- Instruct counsel in complex cases, as required.
- Ensure the team provides a strong legal advisory service to other Victoria Police divisions in relation to firearms, private security, privacy, and freedom of information matters.
- Admission to practice as an Australian lawyer (unrestricted practicing certificate).
- High-level understanding and experience as a court advocate.
- Ability to supervise a team in a developing and emerging work environment.
- High level of resilience and emotional intelligence.
- Experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing junior lawyers to undertake high-level advocacy work.
- A formal management qualification and formal teaching or training qualification would be advantageous.
- A current and valid driver's license is highly desirable.
