Key Position in Wheat Breeding Program

This role involves leading the Western Australian wheat breeding program, focusing on delivering timely data to enable an efficient and commercially focused breeding program. The position includes implementing a breeding and testing strategy to realize commercial opportunities while contributing to the scientific development of the breeding program.

  • Conduct daily breeding works such as crossing, seed preparation, trial planting, scoring, harvesting, data processing and line selection under steering of the Senior Plant Breeder.
  • Implement and execute molecular marker tool kits enabling marker assisted selection for efficient trait selection and variety candidate identification as well as standard quality testing protocols.
  • Manage breeding databases including storage backups under direction.
  • Contribute actively to Product Advancement processes.
  • Support product launches and field day activities including supply of technical information to commercial teams.
  • Collaborate with global wheat breeders to leverage germplasm diversity and breeding tools.
  • Execute and record agreements relevant to wheat seed shipments and germplasm movements.
  • Contribute to Eastern Breeding Programs.
  • Travel to Western Australia for field scoring and oversee service providers for breeding platform establishment based in Esperance.
