About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Environmental Planning Officer to join our team, providing expert advice on environmental issues such as biodiversity, stormwater, and sustainability.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking site inspections of development application sites to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and planning permit conditions.
  • Providing assistance and advice to Council staff on construction and maintenance works to ensure adherence to planning permit conditions and legislative requirements.
  • Offering staff training in planning permit processes and environmental legislation as needed.
  • Supporting biodiversity and sustainability initiatives both internally and externally.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of Council policies and strategies related to environmental planning.
  • Participating in Council's Green Space Referral Group and regional Biodiversity Planners Network.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Town Planning, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental Science, with experience in environmental planning and excellent communication skills.

Essential qualifications include:

  • Sound knowledge of the Victorian Planning System and understanding of the Victorian Native Vegetation Clearing Guidelines.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge to interpret town planning legislation and statutory planning processes.
  • Ability to provide in-field advice to stakeholders to avoid and minimize environmental impacts.
  • Capacity to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide advice and assistance on biodiversity and ecological matters to Council, officers, and the community.
  • Experience in preparing and prioritizing business plans for Environment Programs.
