Senior Development Assessment Officer

The City of Parramatta is undergoing significant transformation, and this role will play a key part in enhancing the delivery of our services and fostering a customer-focused culture. With the establishment of the new City of Parramatta Council in 2016, development assessments in the area have increased by 30%, and this position will assist the team in managing this increased workload.
This role is crucial to the success of our plans, and we require the successful candidate to have extensive experience (minimum of 5 years) in assessing a wide range of development applications and operating effectively in a political and commercial environment, as part of a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities- Present high-quality written reports and provide verbal advice to design excellence, local, and regional planning panels.
- Act in a manner that promotes team unity, collaboration, and cooperation, by mentoring student and junior planners within the team and potentially acting up as Team Leaders as needed.
- Project manage pre-lodgements and development applications in a time-efficient manner.
- Manage and act in appeals in the NSW Land and Environment Court.
- Contribute to improved customer service and organisational effectiveness.
- Ensure that cost recovery of services is implemented in accordance with Council's Fees and Charges schedule.
- Build professional and productive partnerships within Council and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in statutory or strategic town planning or allied professional experience and an understanding of the NSW planning system.
- Hold a Degree in Town Planning or equivalent.
- Current Class C Driver's Licence.
Desired, but not essential, for applicants to have:
- Experience as a Town Planner in an organisation with a similar diversity of commercial, industrial, residential, and community development as the City of Parramatta.
- Strong interest and experience in the assessment of works to Heritage Items and Heritage-related planning matters.
We are offering an attractive remuneration from $117,832 to $129,758 plus 11.5% superannuation.
