About the Opportunity
We are seeking expressions of interest from Indigenous law students for casual Law Clerk roles. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and work collaboratively in an inclusive environment where everyone's contribution is valued.
Job Description
Casual Law Clerks will work up to 3 days a week in any of our national offices, with three full days preferred but alternative arrangements negotiable. The role involves various tasks, including document review, preparing court documents and briefs, legal research, and general clerical duties. There may also be ad-hoc work available when workloads are heavy or other staff are not available.
Key Responsibilities
- Substantial document review and preparation of court documents and briefs to counsel
- Conducting legal research and providing clear written reports
- Performing general clerical tasks, such as data entry and record-keeping
- Undertaking urgent work in relation to significant government initiatives
Requirements
To be eligible for this role, you must be an Australian Citizen willing to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the appropriate level. You must also be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and/or identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and be accepted by community as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong legal research skills and clear writing skills
- Good knowledge of common software applications (e.g., Word, Outlook, Adobe)
- Initiative and flexibility
- Ability to work under pressure and as a member of a team
