Ship Officer Job Summary

This is a critical role in the safe and secure operation of a prawn trawler. As a key member of the deck crew, you will ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and oversee the work practices of the deck crew.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure safe and secure operations and navigation of the vessel as directed by the Skipper">
• Maintain the vessel's deck and ensure it is compliant with Standard Operating Procedures">
• Oversee the deck crew's work practices and maintain standards and performance">
• Assist with training and development of the deck crew">
• Participate in sea time and shore-based duties">
• Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment and report any issues to the Fishing Master">
• Operate and steer the fishing vessel">
• Navigate the vessel to the planned course">
• Control and monitor fish handling activities on board the vessel">
• Crew training">
• Assisting with monitoring supplies (bait, food stores, fuel, gear)">
• Watch duties">
• Net mending, wire splicing, and seafood processing skills are essential">

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in prawn trawling and packing prawns for freezing">
• Must be willing to undergo regular drug and alcohol testing">
• Ability to commute or relocate to Wollongong, NSW">
• Work Authorisation: Australia preferred">
