Bendigo And District Aboriginal Cooperative seeks a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team as a Public Intoxication Response nurse. This role is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals who are intoxicated in the Greater Bendigo/Castlemaine areas.

About the Position

The core function of the Public Intoxication Response (PIR) team is to provide an outreach-based response to individuals in need, conducting thorough health assessments, offering safe transportation, monitoring health and overall well-being, and delivering follow-up care as required. As a key member of this team, you will be responsible for providing nursing support to participants through the sobering up process, ensuring a safe and caring environment for them to sober up. Additionally, you will facilitate access to appropriate alcohol and other drug treatment options and support services when the person is sober.

Key Responsibilities
  • Field response to triage immediate health needs and provide nursing and first aid support as required
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and assist with data management, networking with other providers, planning, and management of patient care
  • Conduct preventative/screening procedures; assist with patient education and community health promotion activities
  • Follow clinic policy and procedure for recall and reminder appointments, and ensure sterilization and maintenance of clinical equipment
About You

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • A strong knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the ACCHO environment
  • Mandatory qualifications: Registered Nurse
  • Desired experience in Mental Health/Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD)
