Elderly Buildings Assessor

We are seeking an experienced professional to fill this key role. The successful candidate will work with the Manager Building and Development and Building Surveyors to provide a quality environmental health and building service, as well as provide technical health and building expertise and advice.

• Provide technical health and building expertise and advice to internal staff and external clients on health and building related matters.
• Meet deadlines associated with assessment of applications and other statutory certificates and applications as required.
• Deliver excellent customer service through clear and accurate advice at the front counter, in pre-development application discussions and general correspondence.
• Represent Council at meetings and engage with members of the public to guide development within the region and achieve good quality building outcomes.
• Respond timely to correspondence regarding environmental health and building issues.
• Coordinate programs and undertake inspections to ensure Council meets its obligations relating to food safety, waste disposal and legislative requirements.

• Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or similar field.
• Minimum one year's experience in a Local Government Development Control and Health environment (or equivalent).
• Class C Drivers Licence.
• Current registration as a Building Surveyor - Restricted (All classes of Buildings) (A2).
• General Construction Induction Card.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact at all levels on technical advice and policy issues.
• Proven ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts to achieve satisfactory outcomes.
• Effective decision making and problem solving techniques/processes.
• Word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.
