Public Relations Specialist - APS5 Media Role

About the Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Public Relations Specialist to join our team as an APS5 Media Officer. This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity, with the potential for ongoing employment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and distribute press releases to ensure accurate representation of departmental policies.
  • Craft compelling messages for senior leadership, emphasizing key points and highlighting successes.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the department, handling media inquiries and managing relationships with journalists.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of media coverage, providing timely advice to senior leaders on emerging issues.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure cohesive messaging and alignment with departmental goals.
Requirements:
  • At least one year of experience working in a media team at a Federal Government Department or Agency.
  • Proven track record of dealing with hot-button issues in a media-rich environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to write high-quality press releases and craft engaging messages for senior leaders.
  • Strong understanding of the media landscape, including issues management and crisis communication.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple deadlines.
  • Baseline security clearance (or the ability to obtain one).
  • Australian citizenship is mandatory.
