Flying Bark Productions, a renowned independent producer of family-focused animation entertainment, is seeking an experienced Visual Storyteller and Proxy Model Specialist to join their team.

As a key member of the production team, this role will be crucial in developing the visual storytelling for exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Stranger Things animated series, and more.

This position involves close collaboration with the Director and storyboarding team to produce high-end previsualization sequences and CG proxy models that serve as the foundation for the final animation. Strong skills in storytelling, pacing, and cinematography are vital to ensuring that the project's creative vision is transformed into engaging visual sequences.

About the Role:
  • Creation and maintenance of versatile high-quality and lower-res proxy models, emphasizing topology and organic modeling under the guidance of technical and creative supervising crew;
  • Developing accurate previs without cheats, aligning with feasible production capabilities;
  • Applying previs methods to construct scenes effectively integrating camera movements and proxy sets for enhanced storytelling;
  • Partnering with art, storyboarding, and edit departments to ensure smooth integration of previsualization elements into production sequences;
  • Organizing and publishing geometry for proxies, streamlining scenes for asset creation;
  • Engaging closely with directors and supervisors to accurately interpret artistic vision and reflect it in both proxy models and previs sequences;
  • Maintaining effective communication with production teams and other departments, proactively addressing potential issues affecting timely delivery of materials;
  • Critically assessing and refining models and sequences to uphold highest standards of visual storytelling and technical accuracy;
  • Tackling performance and layout issues related to proxies by leveraging storyboards and concepts to determine unique assets and identify opportunities for reusing existing assets;
  • Working within pipeline constraints and providing feedback on workflow improvements;

Average Annual Salary: $110,000 - $140,000

This role requires a minimum of 7 years of experience in previsualization or similar roles within the animation industry. Proficiency in industry-standard software, especially Autodesk Maya, is essential. Strong skills in storytelling, composition, animation timing, and cinematography are required. Additionally, the successful candidate must have a solid understanding of asset and layout workflows, CG camera lens information, camera rigs, and cinematography.
