This opportunity provides a chance to volunteer in teaching and education in Guatemala, working with local communities to provide educational support.
Responsibilities- Volunteer with local communities providing educational support to disadvantaged groups in Guatemala.
- Choose projects working with a range of ages, from toddlers to young mothers.
- Gain hands-on experience in the fields of teaching and educational workshops.
- Flexible placement tailored according to your interests and abilities.
- Immerse yourself in local life with optional home-stays or other accommodation options.
- Receive dedicated support with our teams based in both the UK and Guatemala.
- Discover optional excursions to volcanoes, waterfalls, and colourful colonial towns.
- Learn Spanish with 25 pre-departure lessons included.
Please note: This opportunity is designed to give you the contacts and experience to help further your career. You are not replacing any member of staff, but helping alongside them, whilst learning new skills.
Context and Project DetailsGuatemala suffers from several challenges around its educational system. Poor funding, limited teacher training, and a lack of resources are endemic, especially in rural areas.
By working side-by-side with charity staff, you will have the opportunity to learn about Guatemalan life and culture. The charity allows volunteers to bring creativity and fun to a range of subjects, from cooking classes to sports activities and maths clubs.
You may find yourself helping young children from 0-5 years old with their social and language skills. Alternatively, you could be teaching sexual education to adolescents aged 13-18 years old. There are also opportunities to be involved in programs for adults, especially young mothers and pregnant women.
