Hobart, Tasmania, Australia beBee Careers Full time

The Tasmanian Psychiatry Training Program offers a comprehensive state-wide training program in psychiatry with placements in various locations throughout the state.

Rotations include Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Forensic Psychiatry, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, Old Age, Perinatal, Community, Rehabilitation, Medical Administration, and Private Psychiatry.

The Statewide Mental Health Service reforms are providing expanding opportunities in services such as Acute Care, First Responder, and Hospital in the Home Teams.

In partnership with the University of Tasmania, the Service has established the Tasmanian Centre for Mental Health Service Innovation to enhance and improve mental health service offerings.

The centre is dedicated to workforce development, training, education, research, and policy advocacy.

Trainees can complete their whole training in Tasmania and have access to generalist training as well as advanced training certificates in specific areas.

The program runs a local Formal Education Program supported by funds which allows speakers from around Australia to contribute to the training.

A successful examination preparation course is also available.

With approximately 36 trainees across the state, the program offers a personal experience with strong support from supervisors, peers, and the service.

The Tasmanian Branch Training Committee provides an overview of the Training program and assists with allocations of rotations.

The role involves admission and care of patients and liaison with Specialist Medical Staff regarding patients.

It also includes attending Specialist ward rounds, recording decisions made in the medical history, responding to calls by members of the patient's care team, and ensuring consultations occur when requested.

The position requires participation in after-hours work, an on-call roster, and Code Blue and MET calls to both public and private patients.

Registrars will receive 10 hours of paid, protected training time per fortnight.

The salary for this position is $134,930- $189,005 per annum, pro rata, plus 11.5% superannuation, and access to salary packaging.

Successful applicants must meet the essential criteria, including general or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia, current Working with Children Registration, and enrolled completion of training in the medical specialty of psychiatry with RANZCP.

Desirable criteria include successfully completing all fellowship examinations within one year of obtaining specialist fellowship.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job must satisfy a preemployment check before taking up the appointment.

This includes conviction checks in specified areas, identification check, and disciplinary action in previous employment check.
