About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to join our team at the Department of Home Affairs. As a key member of our Database Engineering team, you will be responsible for the development, installation, configuration, and maintenance of our database management systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of database standards and policies.
  • Conduct routine database maintenance and administration activities, including monitoring database activity and resource usage.
  • Investigate and resolve database problems and provide solutions.
  • Deploy structural changes to databases within scope and in accordance with established standards, policy, and procedures.
  • Develop reports by processing data using different programming languages.
  • Analyze and interpret incoming internal and external stakeholder requests and provide specialist advice regarding database changes.
Requirements
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a Database Administrator working with Db2 LUW Database Management System (DBMS).
  • Knowledge of database standards, including understanding normal form.
  • Knowledge of ASD security standards, including the Essential Eight Maturity model.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, database data types, and structures.
  • Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Ability to work in a team, problem-solve, and have good attention to detail.
  • Ability to contribute to strategic thinking, work under limited direction, and be self-motivated.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Korn or bash shell scripting.
  • Experience with UNIX and Linux operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Informatica Identity Resolution software.
  • Knowledge of Global Names Management / Global Names Resolution software.
  • Writing stored procedures using IBM's Structured Query Language Procedural Language (SQL-PL).

The Department may provide relocation assistance to eligible APS employees required to relocate. The level of assistance will vary depending on the reason for relocating and your personal circumstances.

To be eligible for the position, you must be an Australian Citizen.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
