About the RoleIn this role, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within a health centre setting, supporting the diverse mental health needs of military members. Referrals will come from various sources, including the member, medical team, and Command, offering diversity in presentations and support requests. Your role will involve initial intake and assessment, with flexibility to accommodate presenting needs. You will have autonomy to manage your caseload, including oversight and case management of externally referred cases and provision of internal treatment to Defence members. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing crisis presentations, risk assessment, and risk management planning within a multi-disciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive mental health assessments and deliver evidence-based 'Focussed Psychological Strategies' as defined under the Medicare Schedule.
- Manage a caseload of Defence members, including externally referred cases and internal treatment.
- Develop and implement risk management plans for crisis presentations.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality healthcare services.
- Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience in mental health in a primary health or specialist mental health setting.
- Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
- Knowledge of relevant State/Territory policies and procedures and national standards governing mental health practice (desirable).
Lavarack Health Centre is located in Townsville at Lavarack Barracks, the largest Army base in Australia. This facility provides primary medical, surgical outpatient, dental, nursing, physiotherapy, mental health, and pharmaceutical care to Defence members, and consists of a 24/7 inpatient ward. The standard operating hours of the centre range from Monday – Friday depending on role requirements and specific craft groups required for weekend shifts.
