Position Overview

About the Role

Pact Packaging is a leader in the production and distribution of rigid plastic and metal packaging solutions catering to both consumer and industrial markets.

We are in search of a Health and Safety Systems Coordinator who will oversee and ensure the effective application of Health, Safety, Environment, and Sustainability (HSES) protocols across our Minto facility dedicated to Health and Personal Care plastic packaging. This role is crucial in guaranteeing that our organization adheres to its legal and ethical responsibilities to maintain a secure working environment.

As a HSES Coordinator, you will act as a vital link between site-level operations and corporate initiatives, promoting and supervising the application of the Group HSES System, which includes Policies, Procedures, and tools. This will involve regular communication with Site Management and conducting thorough inspections and audits.

Your responsibilities will also encompass assessing and recommending enhancements to the management of hazardous and high-risk activities at the site, overseeing critical incidents, and assisting with incident investigations, root cause analyses, and the closure of corrective actions. This includes inquiries into incidents related to health, pollution, contamination, and waste management.

Additionally, you will support the site’s Injury Management Processes and prepare comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental reports. Engaging with external regulatory bodies such as Safework and the EPA, you will provide insights for continuous improvement of the Group HSES System.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee health, safety, and environmental incidents, assisting sites with investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Engage with external regulatory agencies (e.g., WorkSafe, EPA) and recommend improvements for the Group HSES System.
  • Design and implement environmental, health, and safety programs.
  • Identify prevalent environmental, health, and safety risks at the site and establish control measures.
  • Foster a culture of zero harm by providing expert guidance and supporting the implementation of the Group HSES system to Divisional and Site Management teams.
  • Manage incident reporting and response.
  • Develop risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in regulatory requirements and communicate them effectively.
  • Assist in the formulation and coordination of strategic initiatives.
  • Educate and train leaders on the PACT safety management systems.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety Codes of Practice, Standards, and associated obligations.
  • Proficient in hazard identification, risk management, and incident investigation.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, monitoring, and auditing Safety or Environmental Management Systems.
  • Strong computer skills and developed administrative capabilities.
  • Commitment to sustainability and fostering a respectful workplace.
  • Experience in manufacturing or large multinational environments.
  • High initiative and ability to work effectively and independently from the HSES team.
