About the Role:

Kennedys is seeking a talented litigation lawyer at Senior Associate level to join our busy Insurance practice based in our growing Melbourne office.

The Team:

Our vibrant Melbourne Insurance team is led by 4 prominent Partners who pride themselves on promoting an inclusive culture; ensuring everyone works together to achieve the best results for our clients.

You will join a team of highly experienced Special Counsel and Senior Associates whilst receiving first-class support from our dedicated Associates, Paralegals and Legal Secretaries – enabling you to thrive in the fast-paced world of insurance litigation.

  • Boutique Underwriting Agencies

Cases:

  • Acting as coverage counsel for consumer class actions against Banks and Insurers
  • Acting for a large Australian life insurance provider in defence of ASIC regulatory prosecution
  • Defence of coverage proceedings brought by financial institution against professional indemnity insurers
  • Defence of AFSL in claims arising from misappropriation of funds by authorised representative
  • Defence of consulting engineers in relation to design of natural drainage waterway

Responsibilities:

  • 4+ years' of relevant insurance litigation experience with a background in defending professional services claims brought against AFSL, financial advisors, accountants & insolvency practitioners
  • Experience acting in Federal Court, State Court and AFCA disputes is preferred
  • Coverage experience acting for insurers and advising on coverage matters specific to the financial / professional services sector would be highly advantageous but not essential
  • Methodical and organised approach to file management
  • Ability to manage own time, excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
  • High level of professionalism and integrity; displaying the highest standard of professional ethics
  • Leadership abilities and natural flair for building relationships
