At the forefront of cutting-edge research, we seek a highly skilled Research Associate to join our multidisciplinary team. Located in Adelaide, this role will involve conducting innovative research using modern and ancient DNA methods.
Job DescriptionThe successful candidate will contribute to an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project, focusing on sediment-hosted ancient DNA and its applications in palaeoecology. The project aims to develop novel records of vegetation change over the last 10,000 years by constructing and analysing a DNA reference database for native flora on Kangaroo Island, South Australia.
Working closely with colleagues from Earth Sciences, Environmental Genomics Initiative, and State Herbarium of South Australia, you will analyse ancient DNA from sediments to provide insights into climate, fire, vegetation, and human interactions. Your expertise in bioinformatic processing of DNA data and demonstrated knowledge in Quaternary sediment analysis will be invaluable to the project's success.
As part of this dynamic team, you will contribute to fieldwork, student supervision, and synthesising project outcomes to inform sustainable fire management and biodiversity conservation across south-eastern Australia.
Required Skills and Qualifications- PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more scientific disciplines: botany, fire ecology, landscape ecology, palaeoecology, climate change, paleoclimates, environmental change, or similar.
- Excellent publication record in international peer-reviewed journals relative to experience.
