The Positive Behaviour Support and Restrictive Practices Unit is guided by the Disability Services Act 2006 and the Guardianship and Administration Act 2000.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Authorising short term use of restrictive practices for adults with a disability who display behaviours which may cause harm to themselves or others
  • Liaising closely with stakeholders, including the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, the Office of the Public Guardian and the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal

In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Unit provides advice, resources and training for service providers operating within the NDIS environment. The state-wide team works cooperatively with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission to ensure providers are aware of and comply with co-regulatory requirements.

Job Summary

This role involves providing effective clinical services in regard to positive behaviour support and restrictive practices using an individualised assessment and service delivery approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide contemporary, transparent and evidence-based clinical advice in regard to positive behaviour support and reducing and eliminating restrictive practices in the context of the Disability Services Act 2006
  • Undertake and prepare clinical assessments, submissions, reports, briefs and other documentation as required
  • Maintain an active clinical caseload of individuals with complex behaviour support needs
Requirements:

Skills and Qualifications:
Degree qualifications in allied health, nursing, human services, social or behavioural sciences, or a related field from a recognised tertiary institution with eligibility for full registration with the relevant registration board or membership with the relevant professional association.
Registration, or eligibility to gain registration within 3 months of employment, as a Behaviour Support Practitioner with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is mandatory for this role.

Preferred Skills:

A tertiary degree or higher qualification from a recognised university in psychology, occupational therapy, speech pathology, physiotherapy, social work or nursing is desirable. Vaccination against COVID-19 is highly desirable. A Class 'C' drivers licence is also desirable.
