Community Care Specialist Job Description

The role of a Community Midwife is to provide high-quality, culturally sensitive care to Aboriginal women throughout their pregnancy and post-partum journey.

This specialist position requires the ability to work effectively within a small team, providing continuity of midwifery care in a community setting.

  • Key responsibilities include applying ANMC National Competency standards for the Midwife, adhering to relevant policies and guidelines, and ensuring midwifery practice is culturally safe.
  • Additional requirements include complying with legal and professional implications for practice, documenting according to hospital standards, and recognizing unsafe practice when necessary.
  • The successful candidate will also be responsible for consulting with healthcare professionals when needed, advocating for women's rights, and planning and evaluating care in partnership with clients.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Midwifery Practice: Apply ANMC National Competency standards for the Midwife, ACM National Midwifery guidelines for Consultation and Referral, and SJGHC policies.
  • Compliance: Comply with policies and guidelines that have legal and professional implications for practice.
  • Documentation: Formulate documentation according to SJG Midland Hospital standards and legal and professional guidelines.
  • Culture Safety: Ensure midwifery practice is culturally safe.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with the woman, her family, and friends.
  • Care Planning: Plan and evaluate care in partnership with the woman.
