The University of Canberra is seeking a highly skilled and culturally sensitive Academic Support Specialist to join our Ngunnawal Centre team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting Indigenous students to achieve academic success and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized tutoring plans to support Indigenous students in their academic journey
  • Utilize learning and support tools available within the university to enhance student learning capacity and engagement
  • Provide culturally safe and relevant academic support to Indigenous students, taking into account their unique needs and experiences
  • Collaborate with university staff and stakeholders to ensure seamless support for Indigenous students
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that promote Indigenous student success

Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in a related field
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and histories, and the ability to apply this knowledge in a culturally sensitive manner
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and community members
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of flexibility and adaptability
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively
