Job Title: Career Accountant Trainee

The Finance Team is seeking a highly motivated and organized university student to join us as a Career Accountant Trainee. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in local government finance, develop practical skills, and contribute to the team's success.

The successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, supporting treasury functions, including cash management and statutory reporting, preparing Council's annual budget and monthly financial performance reports, processing general ledger journals, and maintaining asset register data.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records

  • Process general ledger journals and maintain asset register data
  • Assist with internal and external audit activities

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Currently be in your final or penultimate year of study in Accounting, Commerce, Business, or Finance
  • Good attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email
  • Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated and eager to learn, with interest in local government finance
