Our Public Health Services Section is dedicated to 'Closing the Gap' in Aboriginal health outcomes through high-quality, culturally responsive programs and services.

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Indigenous Health Specialist to join our team in the Barkly Region. This full-time role offers an exciting opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of Aboriginal people.

The successful candidate will work closely with our community-based teams to develop, promote and implement evidence-based resources and activities aimed at reducing tobacco smoking and promoting smoke-free environments in the Barkly Region.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver community engagement strategies to promote tobacco awareness and cessation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and address the root causes of tobacco use among Aboriginal communities.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable and respectful networks with communities across the Barkly Region.
  • Support the delivery of regional smoking prevention campaigns, events and information sharing.
  • Ensure all program materials and content are up-to-date, relevant and engaging for the target audience.
Requirements
  • Certification III in Aboriginal Health or equivalent, or willingness to undertake training.
  • Experience working in Aboriginal community health or welfare services, with a strong understanding of traditional cultures, values and protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with diverse community groups.
  • Well-developed communication skills necessary for reporting and informing cross-agency and cross-cultural environments.
  • Microsoft Office applications skills, including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and travel to remote communities.

Salary: $61,005 - $65,562 per annum + benefits
