Senior Communications Specialist

Are you a talented communications professional looking for a challenging role where you can make a real difference? As a Senior Communications Specialist, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering impactful communications that support the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Marketing and Communications team in Canberra, working closely with stakeholders to amplify our organisation's visibility, reputation, and mission. You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication initiatives that support system-wide change.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Communications: Develop and implement communication strategies that align with organisational goals and foster system-wide change.
- Content Creation: Produce and manage digital and print content across multiple channels, ensuring messaging remains impactful, relevant, and aligned with organisational goals.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, to ensure communications are culturally responsive, accurate, and engaging.
- Media Management: Oversee media relations, respond to media inquiries, and manage press coverage to promote positive visibility for our initiatives.
- Internal Communications: Develop materials that keep staff informed and engaged, cultivating a supportive and culturally inclusive workplace environment.
- Brand Consistency: Ensure all communications adhere to brand guidelines, aligning with the organisation's mission and values.
- Event and Impact Support: Support event communications and evaluate campaign effectiveness, leveraging insights to drive continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated experience in a communications role, ideally within the not-for-profit or community sector.
- A strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and a commitment to advancing their social and emotional wellbeing.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor content for diverse audiences.
- Experience in managing social media platforms and creating digital content.
- A collaborative mindset, able to balance multiple priorities with attention to detail.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field (desirable).
- A competitive salary package and benefits, estimated at around $90,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
