Emergency Care Specialist Role

The Virtual Division is a supportive, collaborative and innovative team that operates with various healthcare facilities to deliver patient-centred care.

In 2025, the Virtual Division commenced a new service, providing virtual emergency care to patients in the community. This service connects patients who contact Health Direct with the Virtual Division service instead of directing them to Emergency Departments.

Job Summary

  • As an Emergency Care Specialist, you will provide expert clinical organisation, coordination, leadership and consultancy services within the area of emergency, critical care and close observation in a virtual context.
  • You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care and ensure safe and effective treatment plans are implemented.
  • You will also contribute to the development of policies, procedures and guidelines to improve patient outcomes and enhance the quality of care provided by the Virtual Division.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide expert clinical organisation, coordination, leadership and consultancy services within the area of emergency, critical care and close observation in a virtual context.
  2. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care and ensure safe and effective treatment plans are implemented.
  3. Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and guidelines to improve patient outcomes and enhance the quality of care provided by the Virtual Division.

Requirements

  • Must have extensive experience working as a Registered Nurse in emergency, critical care or close observation environments.
  • Should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Should be able to think critically and solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
