Job Title: Senior Curator of Indigenous Art

This role is a critical opportunity to contribute to the development and curation of indigenous art collections in a world-renowned institution. The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing the planning, research, and coordination of exhibitions and displays that showcase the rich cultural heritage of Australia's first peoples.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Curate and coordinate exhibitions and displays that meet the highest standards of artistic merit and cultural sensitivity.
  • Collaborate with curators, artists, and other stakeholders to develop and implement exhibition concepts that reflect the diversity and richness of indigenous cultures.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including artists, communities, and collectors, to ensure the authenticity and integrity of the collection.
  • Contribute to the development of the institutional knowledge and expertise in indigenous art through research, publications, and professional development opportunities.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have:

  • A postgraduate degree in art history, museum studies, or a related field, supplemented by significant experience in curatorial practice, exhibition management, and/or indigenous art studies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in indigenous art history, theory, and practice, as well as strong knowledge of contemporary issues affecting indigenous communities.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse stakeholders, including artists, communities, and colleagues from different cultural backgrounds.
