We are seeking a highly skilled Database Systems Engineer - Backend to join our team at Perpetual Corporate Trust, a leading innovation company in the Australian banking and finance industry.

This exciting opportunity allows you to design, develop, and maintain robust database systems that support our company's data needs. As a key member of our engineering team, your mission is to ensure data integrity, performance, and security while working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient, scalable, and high-performance backend solutions.

About the Role
  • System Design and Architecture: Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement scalable and efficient data processing systems and architectures that meet our organisation's needs.
  • Data Pipeline Development: Build and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines to efficiently collect, transform, and load data from various sources into data storage and analytics platforms.
  • Data Integration: Ensure seamless integration of data from different sources and systems, ensuring data quality, consistency, and reliability.
  • Data Transformation and Modelling: Develop and implement data transformation and modelling techniques to optimise data for analysis and reporting, particularly PowerBI.
  • Database Development and Maintenance: Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions to support various business processes and reporting needs.
  • Performance Optimisation: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in data processing and storage systems to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
Your Skills and Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of Database Development experience (SQL Server) supporting mission-critical relational databases.
  • Strong experience in SQL query tuning, server optimisation, and management.
  • Experience with Database design and creation of SQL objects such as functions.
  • Hands-on experience with the full Microsoft database stack (SSDB, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, ADF, Power BI).
  • System testing, automated testing of database functions, and test-data creation.
  • Ideal skills include Databricks, Apache Spark, and strong Python skills.
  • Experience building and managing database-focused environments in Microsoft Azure cloud.
  • Experience with CICD and Azure DevOps: Build Pipelines, Release Pipelines, and deployments.
  • Proficient understanding of Git and code management tools.
