Job Title

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Isolation Specialist to oversee the safe isolation of mechanical equipment in various projects at the Australian Maritime Complex Common User Facility and other locations in the region.

This is a key role where you will be responsible for eliminating the need to work on mechanical equipment during maintenance periods, supervising a team of isolations specialists, and liaising with contractors on behalf of the company.

As a Mechanical Isolation Specialist, you will gain extensive knowledge of ship systems such as Ballast, Fuel, Air, Oil, power plants, and how to manage and isolate them.

You will work closely with a team of experienced tradespeople who have extensive knowledge and experience in this role, helping you to gain the skills and knowledge required to fulfill your responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Confirm mechanical isolation requirements with system/equipment owners
  • Understand testing procedures and use testing equipment competently
  • Assess and approve activities where hazardous energy may be present and issue permit to work
  • Verify all isolations are complete and assess isolation plans to ensure integrity and safety
  • Manage electronic and manual danger tagging systems and conduct inspections post-de-isolation
  • Attend Critical Risk meetings and liaise with clients to prioritize scheduling of isolations

Requirements:

  • Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or higher
  • Construction white card
  • C class driver's licence
  • Desirable qualifications include RIIWHS202E, RIIRIS201E, MSMWHS201, MSMWHS217, MSMPER200, MSMPER300, and UETDRMP007

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • 4 years' experience in a Marine Trade
  • Ability to self-regulate emotions and achieve positive outcomes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical ability to climb ladders and stairwells as required in marine sites
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft 365
