Postdoctoral Researcher in Chromatin Biology
3 weeks ago
Salary Range: (Level A) $78,544 to $105,611 or (Level B) $111,031 to $131,335 per annum, with an additional employer contribution of 17% superannuation.
Position Type: Fixed term, full-time role available for 24 months.
The 3D Chromatin Organisation Lab, led by Dr. Joanna Achinger-Kawecka, is on the lookout for a postdoctoral researcher to delve into the intricate relationship between chromatin architecture, epigenetics, and transcriptomics. Candidates should possess a solid background in epigenetics and/or chromatin research, a commendable publication history, and a strong drive to independently develop their research initiatives.
Research Focus: Our lab investigates how alterations in 3D chromatin structure contribute to cancer initiation, progression, and therapeutic resistance. Utilizing advanced methodologies such as multi-omics, single-cell analysis, and genome editing, we aim to elucidate the interactions between 3D chromatin, the epigenome, and the transcriptome in cancer contexts. We specifically utilize hormone-responsive cancers to design experiments that enhance our understanding of cancer biology and expedite the creation of novel therapeutic strategies.
Project Overview: The successful candidate will employ state-of-the-art experimental and bioinformatics techniques to explore the dynamic and specific organization of 3D chromatin in cancer cells, focusing on its interactions with non-coding elements and transcription factors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and refine innovative genomics technologies (e.g., Hi-C, RNA-seq, CUT&RUN/Tag, ATAC-seq, WGBS, Nanopore).
- Analyze high-throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
- Develop novel strategies for integrating data across multi-omics datasets.
- Supervise student research projects at various academic levels.
- Prepare reports and research publications, as well as grant applications, and actively participate in conferences and workshops to present findings.
Qualifications for Level A:
- PhD in a relevant biological discipline (molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related fields) or nearing completion.
- Hands-on experience with a variety of standard molecular and cellular biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture, nucleic acid extraction, and chromatin analysis.
- Ability to quickly acquire new techniques and creatively address experimental challenges.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of basic statistical principles.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Qualifications for Level B:
- PhD in a relevant field (Biology, Genetics, Biomedicine, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, etc.).
- Proficiency in molecular biology and genomics technologies, particularly regarding chromatin structure, transcriptomics, or epigenetics, as well as integrative analysis of experimental datasets (e.g., 3D Genome, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq/CUT&RUN/Tag, DNA methylation, chromatin accessibility).
- Strong publication record demonstrating independence in research.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques.
- Programming skills in at least one language (preferably R or Python) and familiarity with NGS data processing pipelines are highly desirable.
Work Environment:
The University of Adelaide offers a stimulating workplace characterized by a diverse range of educational and research programs, including significant collaborations with industry, government, and community partners. This environment provides ample opportunities for a rewarding and long-lasting career.
