Animal Care Specialist

This role involves supporting cutting-edge research and teaching activities while ensuring the health and wellbeing of laboratory species.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Animal Care and Welfare: Provide daily care, monitor health, perform euthanasia when required, and ensure the wellbeing of research animals.
  • Research Support: Assist in preparing animals for procedures, maintain colonies, and ensure compliance with ethical standards.
  • Facility Management: Maintain clean and safe environments, manage inventory, and adhere to regulatory policies.
  • Collaboration and Training: Work closely with researchers, participate in training activities, and contribute to a team-oriented environment.

Requirements:

  • Diploma of Animal Technology or equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience in animal handling techniques and maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge of regulatory systems governing animal research, including relevant Codes of Practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Practical experience in a research setting and familiarity with quarantine requirements and breeding programs.
  • Comfortable with physical activities including manual handling and animal restraint.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently when required.
