Head Sommelier Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Sommelier to join our team at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth. As a key member of our beverage team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a world-class wine program that aligns with our hotel's luxury brand standards.

Your primary focus will be on creating an exceptional wine experience for our guests, including wine list development, wine service, and wine education. You will also be responsible for leading and mentoring our wine team, ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge required to provide outstanding service.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a deep understanding of wine, spirits, and cocktails, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills. You will also need to be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a world-class wine program that aligns with the hotel's luxury brand standards.
  • Lead and mentor the wine team, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge required to provide outstanding service.
  • Develop and maintain wine lists, including wine selection, pricing, and inventory management.
  • Provide exceptional wine service to guests, including wine education and recommendations.
  • Manage wine inventory, including ordering, receiving, and storing wine.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to develop wine pairings and menus.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments, and implement changes as needed.

Requirements:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience as a Sommelier in a restaurant environment.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in a CBD/corporate environment.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of wine, spirits, and cocktails.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Full Australian Work Rights.
