Research Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action VIC. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of integrated pest management (IPM) programs for horticultural pests.

This is a fixed-term position available for a period of 3 years. The successful applicant will work under the guidance of the Senior Research Scientist – Applied Entomology & Integrated Pest Management, Mildura. The role will involve undertaking innovative research towards the development, evaluation, and implementation of IPM tools and practices in nut and fruit orchards.

• Support the development of AVR's IPM research capability
• Conduct field and laboratory research on pest ecology
• Trapping and monitoring insect pests in nut and fruit orchards
• Assessment of crop damage
• Pest management (biopesticides, biological control, and crop hygiene)
• Insect diagnostics
• Closing liaison with industry

A relevant degree in Science, Biological Science, or Agricultural Science is required, with a Ph.D./Master's Degree (or equivalent research experience) in the field of entomology being an advantage. Proven experience with scientific field-based research projects in a research capacity, including experimental design, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
