We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our Employment Legal Team in Australia. As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in managing legal risk, providing strategic legal advice, and ensuring compliance with evolving workplace legislation and regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice on employment law matters including enterprise agreements, awards, contracts, workplace investigations, and terminations.
  • Monitor and interpret legislative and industrial relations developments, advising on implications for policy, practice, and risk.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related documentation, ensuring legal robustness and alignment with organisational values.
  • Partner with senior internal stakeholders across People & Culture, Risk, and Operations as well as external counsel and regulators to embed legal risk management into workforce strategy.
  • Influence policy development and contribute to enterprise-wide decision-making on employment practices and compliance.
  • Lead or support responses to regulatory inquiries, disputes, and litigation involving employment matters.
  • Lead, coach, and develop legal professionals within the Employment Legal team.
  • Promote the strategic value of employment law across the organisation, translating legal complexity into clear, actionable guidance.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of employment law, industrial relations, and workplace legislation.
  • Proficiency in drafting and negotiating employment contracts, policies, and settlement agreements.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders, People & Culture, Risk, and external counsel.
  • Skilled in translating legal advice into clear, commercially relevant guidance.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies and processes (e.g. Fair Work Commission).
