Job Description

As a Music Therapist, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide clinical music therapy services to clients/patients using evidence-based clinical practice skills. Your role is to ensure that your practice aligns with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as well as St John of God Health Care policies and guidelines.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Completing patient assessments, planning, organizing, and delivering prescribed music therapy activities as part of holistic care to influence improvements in health and well-being.
  • Collaborating with other caregivers and multidisciplinary teams when planning music activities in accordance with patients' physical, spiritual, or psychological needs, capabilities, and interests.
  • Directing and participating in instrumental and vocal music activities designed to meet patients' physical, spiritual, or psychological needs, such as solo or group singing, rhythmic, and other creative music activities, and music listening.
  • Instructing patients individually or in groups in prescribed instrumental or vocal music and music projective techniques such as guided imagery or progressive relaxation.
  • Providing education to patients and caregivers about the role of Music Therapy.
  • Responsible for completing appropriate administrative duties arising from each session, including liaison with office administration, reporting statistical data, and completion of clinical documentation.

Successful candidates will have a degree in music and postgraduate qualification in music therapy with eligibility for membership and registration with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA).
