This role is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. As First Nations Cultural Practice Manager, you will lead the development and maintenance of effective regional partnerships with First Nations peoples and community controlled organisations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a comprehensive overview of current reforms, developments and strategies impacting the department's commitments to First Nations peoples.
  • Identify solutions to emerging regional issues regarding the disproportionate representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in the youth justice system.
  • Represent the region in multi-sectorial forums and committees to advance improved outcomes for First Nations young people, families and communities.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of cultural capability across the region, ensuring optimal service delivery to First Nations young people and families.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the department's Path to Treaty action plan.

You will provide advice to the Regional Director on current practice, policy implications, legislation and programs, and prepare written material for executive correspondence, briefing material and information papers.

This role requires strong leadership, coordination, planning, implementation and monitoring skills to achieve desired outcomes within tight timeframes.
