Chief Governance Leader for Anglicare Southern Queensland

We employ over 3,500 staff, 200 volunteers, and have an annual turnover of $390M. We serve over 50,000 vulnerable Queenslanders each year, making a tangible difference in the Queensland community. The Community Services Commission, established by the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane, provides strategic direction and policy development, monitoring community welfare, social justice, health, and aged and community care activities of the Diocese.
The Chair of the Board will lead us through an exciting period of change, reform, growth, and innovation. This role offers an opportunity to join a large, complex, and highly reputable organisation with scale and scope, backed by a strong board comprising 10 Directors, plus the CEO, the Archbishop, and the Deputy Chair position. Our Commission is supported by three sub-committees: Audit and Risk, People and Culture, Clinical Care, and Governance.
As the Chair of the Board, you will steer the Commission's strategic direction and decision-making while upholding the highest governance standards of the organisation. You will ensure the effectiveness of the Board and its individual members, both in and out of the Boardroom. Your responsibilities will include leading board meetings, ensuring accountability of deliverables, and advocating for ASQ's mission and strategic goals, working closely with our CEO and Executive team.
This is a remunerated position with salary packaging available. You will also have the opportunity to lead a board governing a large, complex, and highly respected organisation, work closely with our highly respected CEO to drive change in Queensland communities, and be supported by a Deputy Chair, Sub Committee Chairs, and experienced board members.
In this role, you will bring extensive executive experience in areas such as business, finance, IT, legal, governance, HR, or customer experience in large and complex organisations. Health, community services, or not-for-profit experience would be highly advantageous. You should have demonstrated capacity to lead teams, maintaining the organisation's governance framework and ensuring accountability across all levels of leadership.
You will need to attend evening board meetings and weekend events, annual strategic planning and risk workshops, and other events as predetermined. As the ideal candidate, you will have strong communication skills, including the ability to advocate to stakeholders and publicly as required. Identifying as a worshipping Anglican will be highly regarded.
A relevant degree, preferably in a discipline related to the work of the Commission, and completion of the AICD Company Directors course (or equivalent) are essential requirements. You must also meet the requirements of a Key Personnel Check for the purposes of the Aged Care Act 1997 and have no relevant criminal history or history of bankruptcy. Finally, you will be willing to travel.
