RAC of WA is seeking an experienced Air Quality Specialist to join their Social & Community Impact team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for providing credible and technically sound analysis using data derived from the award-winning RAC Air Health Monitor.

The RAC Air Health Monitor includes data from a network of more than 200 air quality sensors which tracks air pollution across Perth and Peel. This role will be offered initially as a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the accurate collection, storage, and retrieval of air quality data, and establishing data validation procedures across several platforms.
  • Leading the analysis and synthesis of air quality data to identify trends, patterns, and areas of concern.
  • Providing accurate, detailed, and evidence-based outputs, including an annual report.
  • Keeping a currency of knowledge about changes in environmental standards and guidelines to ensure the air quality monitoring network complies.
  • Investigating air quality events and threshold exceedances in concert with the Technical Lead.
  • Supporting operations personnel in ensuring sensor health and network continuity.
  • Providing expert technical advice and professional judgment to support content production and media.
  • Strengthening RAC's credibility in this field while informing RAC members, the community, industry, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Researching and preparing reports, papers, and communication materials.
  • Liaising and developing relationships with stakeholders in government and industry, representing RAC in external forums.
  • Managing consultants and contractors, as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Tertiary degree qualifications in a related discipline, such as Environmental Science, Engineering, or Atmospheric Science.
  • Professional and practical career experience leading in-depth air quality data analysis and preparing reports.
  • Strong knowledge of air quality regulations and standards.
  • Experience with air quality monitoring equipment and data management systems.
  • A high level of professionalism and integrity.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent technical, conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting software and tools, such as MS Excel and PowerBI.
  • Sound professional judgment and a desire to show technical leadership.
  • Ability to apply a proactive approach to duties.
  • Proven ability to plan and prioritize and manage projects within specified budgets and timeframes.
